Club Cowgirls'
To get better at working cattle, you need to understand them.
And you need opportunities to work them.
We'll work on the things that make the biggest difference when you're competing in a cow class or practicing:
· Reading and controlling cattle with accurate position
· Timing a stop, draw and turn for better form and correctness
· Horse position, footwork and accuracy
· Boxing, cutting and herd work, box-drive and fence work
And you'll get something that's hard to find at most clinics: lots of opportunities to practice.
Now in our 8th year, we've continued to refine this event around what our participants tell us they value most: great instruction, lots of riding, lots of cattle, a positive learning environment, and the camaraderie that makes Club Cowgirls so much fun.

Because working cattle is one of those things that's difficult to learn without actually doing it.
You can understand the concept of position. You can know where you're supposed to be. You can watch someone else work a cow beautifully.
And then the gate opens. The cow moves. Your horse reacts. And suddenly everything happens very quickly.
That's where practice really matters. There are so many different situations to navigate.
We've designed this clinic to give you layers of learning and lots of opportunities to keep learning.
You'll receive coaching from two accomplished clinicians and competitors, work in two arenas, and have independent learning opportunities throughout the event.
You can ride. You can watch. You can take a break. Then you can come back and try it again.
Before we meet in Brenham, you'll receive a series of short riding videos from us.
You can watch them, take them to the arena and practice the exercises at home with your horse if you'd like.
We'll use some of these same concepts when we're together, so you'll have an opportunity to become familiar with them before the clinic begins.
If you won't be able to ride and practice them, no problem! You can review them and see what they're all about.
We've moved Thursday's classroom session to the arena.
We'll saddle up and begin promptly at 1:30 PM on Thursday, giving us an additional afternoon of riding together.
Before we ask you and your horse to work cattle, we'll work on the coordination, footwork, and feel involved in the maneuvers you'll need on a cow.
We'll practice guiding, body control, stops, turns, positioning, and the movements that become much harder to think about once there's a cow in front of you.
Then we'll finish the afternoon, take care of our horses, and get together for dinner.
Friday is a full day devoted to cattle.
We'll work in two arenas, giving you opportunities to ride with both coaches, work cattle, and practice skills throughout the day.
We'll dig into:
· How cattle think and respond to pressure
· How to read a cow
· Where you and your horse need to be
· How to control a cow with accuracy
· The when and why of straight lines & angles
· Stops and turns
· The diff between a cow turn & a reining spin
· How to stay grounded in your seat
· How your timing & position affect your horse
· How to help your horse be accurate on a cow
This is where the cow, the horse, and the rider start coming together.
We'll divide into teams and give you an opportunity to use what you've learned in a friendly competition with your fellow cowgirls.
There will be coaching. There will be prizes. There will definitely be cheering.
And if the previous seven years are any indication, there will be a lot of laughing.
Great cow work isn't just about the cow. We'll look at all three pieces throughout the clinic.
Learn to recognize how cattle think, move, and respond to pressure so you can begin anticipating instead of simply reacting. You may also discover an exquisite rhythm as you read and work the cow.
Understand the position, form, rhythm, and footwork your horse needs to stay accurate and effective on a cow - and how you can help them find it.
Improve your balance, coordination, timing, and feel you need to help your horse do his job. The more you understand all three, the less mysterious working a cow becomes and the more confident you become.

This is not an introductory horsemanship clinic.
Your horse should have previous professional training on cattle, whether that's cutting, reined cow horse, stock horse, versatility ranch horse or similar cattle work.
You should be a comfortable, experienced rider who wants to:
· Get more practice working cattle
· Improve your current cow work
· Better understand cattle
· Improve your horse's accuracy
· Develop better timing and feel
· Prepare for cattle classes or improve your show skills
· Become more confident making decisions on your own
· Go home knowing what to continue working on
You do not have to be an accomplished cow horse competitor. You just need an appropriate horse, solid riding skills and a desire to learn.
We take learning seriously in a fabulously supportive and warm atmosphere.
But what's made this event special for eight years is that everything happens around riding and working cattle.
Good horses. Good food. Cowgirl circles. Stories. Wine. Laughter. New friendships and old ones.
You'll work hard. But we'll also have fun.
Arrive between 1:00–5:00 PM and get yourself and your horse settled.
Join us for our optional annual shopping trip to South Texas Tack.
Then we'll head back, saddle up, and be ready to ride at 1:30 PM.
