Hi, this is Barb.

Cutting mentorship typically focuses on how to make cuts and work the cow (which is GREAT and NECESSARY), but there are other skills riders need to know, too.

The "other skills" lie more below the surface: actively and consistently deepening one's knowledge about cattle, horsemanship, and mental skills and finding additional ways to supplement your learning.

Competency in cutting and herd work requires developing the large noticeable chunks AND four ESSENTIAL subskills.

If you're game to up your game (-: please join me over the next 10 days as I go step-by-step and share a path to cultivate the larger chunks of cutting AND these less frequently addressed ones.

Your first step is grabbing The 4 Game-Changing Cutting Skills PDF on this page. Then, I'll see you inside!

Cutting Skills

In-depth descriptions, examples, and tips for...

Building

Horse and Rider Communication

Often thought of as ‘horsemanship’ (balance, seat, independent use of legs and feet, etc.), in our context, this skill also includes developing a relationship of trust through clear communication with your horse as you cultivate feel, flow, and connection.

Reading and

Directing Cattle

‘COW-fidence’ (-:

It can be challenging to develop 'cow skills' when they're moving fast, changing directions - and - when opportunities to practice on live cattle are limited. However, there are ways to expedite learning about cattle and strategically supplement your direct cow experience.

Managing Energy

and Focus

This skill is sometimes called ‘mental toughness’ by some or 'mental skills.' Our context also includes 'confidence within': vision, belief in yourself, decision-making based on personal values, resilience (and more) - and - the capacity to perform at your best and help your horse be their best in competition.

Accelerated

Learning

This refers to adding proactive, personally invested learning routines to your regular instruction. It's taking responsibility for practicing research-proven ways to get skills into your bones! Strategically supplement your in-the-saddle experiences (on any topic) with proven strategies that can supercharge your progress.
